Turkey Gulet charters are a great way to get the family together for holidays. It's a personal and private leisure time away from the everyday routine of life. We recently asked owner and director of Turk Yacht Charter, Mr. Eyup Bayraktaroglu, to explain how to go about booking a gulet charter in Marmaris. We also wanted to find out about a misconception on gulet cruise holidays in Turkey.Eyup Bayraktaroglu Turk Yacht Charter
"In order to book a?gulet charter in Marmaris?the first thing our guests need to do is look through our list of gulets for rent on our website and choose the one or inquire about the ones that appeal to them; because the first thing we need to do is establish which gulet or gulets they are interested in. Then we do our part and check their availability and then promptly get back to our clients and inform them". Mr. Bayraktaroglu further explained that, "After that part is over and we know which gulet is suitable for their requirements and budget, the client needs to reserve it generally with a deposit. Then a contract is signed between our company and our guests. We also have a form they need to fill out so that we can serve them according to their needs during the Blue cruise. Upon their arrival for their Marmaris gulet sailing holiday, the remaining balance is due. We do accept credit cards but they are more than welcome to pay the rest in cash".
Gulet holidays in Turkey
We asked how guests would go about packing and getting ready for their Blue Cruise holidays in Turkey. "Packing for a gulet charter involves preferences that are only known by the clients themselves", explains Mr. Bayraktaroglu. He continues to add that, "We have had clients that only bring a few pair of shorts and shirts along with their bathing suits and towels for the whole weekly yacht charter in Marmaris. While other clients pack much more from dinner wear to cruising wear as some like to eat off the gulet in town at whichever habour we have docked. So it's really up to the guests what they wish to bring on board the gulets. But we do suggest the common necessities such as sun screen and more than one towel per person as you may be in and out of the sea often and need extras to dry off or sun bathe on".
We asked, as this is a private yacht charter, if the itinerary be set by the clients. "We have a selection of itineraries to choose from. But these yacht charter itineraries can be altered according to the client's requests. Nothing is set in stone. The itineraries are just a guide to tell our guests that these are the yacht charter sailing destinations we have to offer. But this again needs to be checked as not all gulets are available for all itineraries at any given time. The scheduling of gulet rentals vary from day to day, especially as we approach the opening season in April and May. Therefore a deposit is mandatory to secure both the gulet and the itinerary the client has choosen. So really it is book the gulet first and then
Gocek and 12 Islands Yacht Charter
we tie in an itinerary available for that gulet", states Mr. Bayraktaroglu. He addes that, "As an example, a gulet could have just finised a Blue cruise from Marmaris to Gocek. Which means that the gulet that is now available is in Gocek port. If the client is flying to Fethiye, then this would mean that the gulet can be chartered from Gocek to wherever the guest wishes to cruise to. This could be the Greek Islands. The prices stay the same and are not dependent on the distance of the itinerary for just about all charter gulets. It is rated according to the gulet itself".
We asked Mr. Bayraktaroglu about food and the menus. He explained that the menus are set but not in fact mandatory as food and drinks are extra on top of the gulet charter prices. So if their clients wanted to eat dishes or foods outside of what they have listed then they are more than welcome to do so. But he claims that the menus Turk Yacht offers are very traditional and all foods are caught, cooked and made fresh everyday. For breakfast they offer a lovely Turkish style menu with olives and cheeses, tomatoes, eggs, fresh bread and much more. There is quite a variety on the table to enjoy a healthy as well as fresh breakfast on board. Lunch and dinner menus are also treated in the same manner. Some guests go with the menus available by Turk Yacht while others buy the groceries they wish to eat on board, and let the chef and crew take care of the rest.
Gulet cruise Greek Islands
Gulet charters in Marmaris is a whole different approach to truly enjoying a unique holiday in comparison to staying at a hotel. At sea your hotel is the gulet and you are travelling from habour to habour, rather than staying in one place for the duration of your vacation. This is wonderful as it can give you the privilege of visiting two countries, two cultures and history all in a weeks's time or longer if you have booked it for a longer period of time - should you choose to take the Marmaris to Greek Islands gulet charter route.
Mr. Bayraktaroglu explains that, "Gulet sailing holidays or gulet holidays in general are really fun for the whole family. It's a chance to get together spend good quality time at sea for a week. The service is one to one and custom to the guests themselves".
We mentioned to Mr. Bayraktaroglu that there seems to be a misconception about gulet sailing holidays in Turkey. Some think that the whole trip is spent sailing from day one, right to the end of that one week trip, but come to realize that they hadn't sailed all that much but rather the gulet's engines were used most of the time, creating somewhat of a disappointment to the whole idea of a sailing holiday in Turkey.
Grande Mare gulet charter in Turkey
"Chartering a gulet sailing holiday is real. Gulets are built to sail. However it all depends on the gulet. Some gulets offer more hardware and equipped to sail on long trips at sea, like our own gulets the Grande Mare and the Dea Delmare. They are both been manufactured for sailing, and all masts have their appropriate sails on them, therefore can take a good distance while on journey from one habour to another. But some gulets are small or without referring to the size, the owners have the masts built but do not buy the sails for all of their masts and therefore cannot provide continuous sailing during the gulet charter", he replied.
He furthermore explains that, "It also depends on the winds. If there is no wind, the gulet cannot move. It needs the wind in order to sail. But during these gulet cruises, the captain and crew do try to put the sails out for at least 3 to 4 hours a day, knowing that it is a expected as part of the Blue Cruise holiday experience. Alternatively they cruise using their engines".

He also added that, "Gulets are very large and heavy vessels unlike bareboats or similar sailboats made from fiber. Fiber is light. But gulets are handmade from massive wood and much heavier which means it takes a lot more sailing and sails to keep it going at sea".
If you are looking for unique and very exciting Blue cruise gulet sailing holiday in Marmaris or elsewhere in Turkey, it seems to be obvious that some questions need to be asked in advance to be sure you are going on a Marmaris yacht charter with the right expectations in place.
