I was playing by myself (like I do a lot) last year and was standing with my bag next to me near the middle of the fairway on the second hole...I just caught the foursome in front of me and they were on the green. It was a short par 5 and I had hit 3 wood off the tee and had about 220ish in and was going for it. My plan was to go for it...get up and down or putt quickly and try to pass them on the 3rd hole.
The guy behind me (another single) was pissed that I was waiting and could not see the foursome on the green from where he was so he decided to hit....at me....his first ball hit about a foot from my golf clubs? When I turned and looked at him and put my hands up....he hit another ball at me...
I know that people are going to say that I should have asked him to come up and play with me....but I was in a hurry myself and the course was wide open after the foursome and I planned on flying through.
Lesson learned that next time, just let the guy hit up with me in the fairway and split up afterwards if need be....or just lay up and get out the way....but we still had some choice words for each other when he came driving up on his cart. Once he saw the foursome still on the green through,.. his argument did not make sense....but he just kept on saying it was my fault for waiting.
Also - that guy was not on the tee when I got to my ball in the fairway....I am not sure how long he waited before hitting me....but it was much less than 5 minutes.
Just throwing that out there, some people define 'hit into' differently, and I'm just curious what others think. I feel like unless it?s an overt attempt to be rude, that most people don't mean to hit into others. If for some reason you do, I think a lot of problems can be solved with an apology and 'wave'.
