The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the first lady sent out her first solo tweet on Wednesday before the first pitch was thrown at Game One of the World Series. What did she tweet? A message about her "Joining Forces" agenda, of course!
According to the Los Angeles Times:
"I did it!" she said, raising her hands in the air triumphantly.
The tweet: "Military families serve our nation too. Let's show our appreciation by Joining Forces with them. Get involved."? She personalized it with her lowercase initials at the end: "mo."?
Michelle Obama and Jill Biden were at the game to promote the first lady's initiative to help military families.
The White House said: "In concert with Major League Baseball, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden will be encouraging Americans to recognize and serve veterans, service members and their families as?part of their Joining Forces initiative and MLB?s Welcome Back Veterans program."
Another tweet traced back to the first lady happened?during the White House Correspondents' Assn. dinner in May 2010.? CNN's Ed Henry boasted after the event that he did his best to "get her hooked on Twitter." The tweet went out, with the blessing of President Obama, but Henry himself typed it into his iPhone.
Joining Forces helps to improve education, health and employment opportunities for military personnel and their families. Today?s veterans need the nation?s support like never before, as they return home to a shaky economy after the country has been entrenched in war for nearly a decade. Twitter is a great way to extend the reach of First Lady Michelle Obama's message.
