LOUISVILLE, Kentucky?? A central Kentucky man is accused of throwing a cigarette at a baby. But it's what he did after that landed him in jail.
According to his girlfriend, Charice Moss snapped. She says it all stemmed from a simple disagreement. But that cigarette he threw was just the beginning, because after she took her child and ran, police say Moss tried to burn her whole house down.
It happened at an apartment building on the corner of 28th Street and West Chestnut around 10:00 Thursday night.
"She and the baby's father had gotten into an altercation over just some general merchandise that had been bought," says Carey Klain with the Louisville Metro Police.
Police say that's when 21-year-old Charice Moss got aggressive. "At that time, he threw a lit cigar or cigarette at her and the child," says Klain.
The mother and her six-month-old baby were able to get away from Moss. She went to her friend's house and that's when she got a call her house was on fire.
"They did observe that there had been an accelerant used and items placed on the gas stove," says Klain. "Which then caught the apartment on fire."
The fire was put out before it could spread. Police say there were at least six people inside the building, but everybody was able to make it out safe. Looking into Moss's past, this isn't the first time he's been in trouble with the law.
In 2009, a police citation states he was arrested for assaulting his child's mother by strangling and attempting to rape her. He's also been caught shoplifting.
As for Thursday night, he faces several counts of wanton endangerment and arson charges.
Moss was booked on one count of arson, one count of unlawful taking, two charges of wanton endangerment.
