Endometrial Cancer Grading | Endometriosis Help

More or less 80,000 women were diagnosed in 2005 with cancer (pelvic gynecological malignancy) and a lot of these cases were uterine cancer. Cervical Cancer Signs To Look For Of uterine cancers around 95% are endometrial. Uterine cancer mostly occurs in postmenopausal women and is basically abnormal cell growth in the uterus (neoplasm).

Endometrial uterine cancers, in many cases, are curable as well as being highly treatable - treatment methods 00004000 include medications, surgical options, chemotherapy and radiation, depending on relevant protocols.

Once a problem is diagnosed the appropriate treatment can commence. The symptom most common in uterine cancer is postmenopausal bleeding and the majority of women will identify this as a warning sign that they may have a problem and require medical help. Fortunately only 10% to 20% women with postmenopausal bleeding symptoms in fact have malignant growths - abnormal bleeding must be medically evaluated without delay as this often results in a diagnosis of the disease at its first stage when it is potentially curable and highly treatable.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What does the "Grade" refer to in Endometrial cancer?
My mother was diagnosed with "Grade 3." From what I understand, this means there is a lower concentration of Cancer cells than a "Grade 1", however they are far more aggressive. Is this accurate? Also, how fast moving is this cancer typically?

We are of course in the care of several doctors, and have appointments scheduled. A hysterectomy is a given, and chemotherapy to be determined following the surgery.

    Thank you sincerely.

    • ANSWER:
"ssmc" is so right about having that "second pair of ears" present when the doctors are explaining things.
But "ssmc" is thinking perhaps of "stage" rather than grade.
The grade is more related to the level of differentiation of the tumor cells.
When pathologists look at the cancer cells under a microscope, the less the cells look like normal uterine endometrial cells, the more undifferentiated they are, and the more aggressive that particular malignancy is likely to be.
This has nothing to do with "concentration of cancer cells."
I'll look up a good site for you to read on this.

      For staging - http://www.cancer.org/docroot/cri/content/cri_2_4_4x_treatment_options_by_stage_11.asp

      And from http://www.canceranswers.com/Uterine.Cancer.html
"Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of uterine cancer, it arises from the glands of the endometrium. About 80% of uterine cancers are adenocarcinomas, and they have varying aggressiveness. The pathologist assigns a "grade" to this cancer, which basically says how cancerous it looks under the microscope. While "Grade I" looks a lot like normal uterine tissue and can be very indolent, "Grade III" looks very cancerous and will probably be aggressive. "Grade II" is intermediate in looks and behavior. About 40% of adenocarcinomas are "Grade I," 20% are "Grade II," and 40% are "Grade III." There may be a mixture of grades or even cancer types in the tumor."

  2. QUESTION:
    cancer of the endometrium?
Three weeks ago I had a radical hyseterctomy, following a diagnosis of endometrial cancer. I did not have an MRI scan (it was cancelled; scanner broken). I am now waiting for the histology/staging. (cells graded at three).
And waiting. How long is the average 'wait'. Asked last week about results,
    told there was a delay.

    • ANSWER:
That must be very frustrating, and an agonising wait. Perhaps you should write a letter to your local NHS Trust, asking for an explanation of the delay and requesting that your lab results be chased up asap. The anxiety caused by all this waiting cannot be helpful for your state-of-mind. I certainly wouldn't accept lame excuses as an explanation; push for results.

  3. QUESTION:
I have had a lump on the back of my neck for over a year now.?
I have been to the doctor over it and all they have been able to tell me is that it is a swolen lymph node. I could have saved a lot of money and told them that. I have a low grade fever all the time but not really sick. The node is hard and moveable but does not hurt. I am an endometrial cancer survivor and am concerned. Maybe someone else has a suggestion. I am going to froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee in November maybe more answers there but thought I would ask anyway.

    • ANSWER:
Any lump lasting more than a week or two needs further ivestigation, especially in conjunction with a low-grade fever. Go to your doctor and demand that he either do something about it or refer you to someone who will.

  4. QUESTION:
My mom was just diagnosed with uterine cancer...?
My mom found out today that she has Grade 1 endometrial carcinoma. She is 64 years old. She had a CAT scan three weeks ago, and everything was clear. She had a pap smear 2 weeks ago, and nothing appeared on the cervix.

She is going to meet with an oncologist from the Medical College of Virginia tomorrow. I'm very nervous and wondering who the best gynecological oncologists are on the East Coast.

Also, given the characteristics I've listed above, what do you think her chances are?

Thank you so much - your help is much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
First of all....many prayers to you...... Grade 1? That is a good thing. It has been detected early! Sounds like your mom has been taking good care of herself. The oncologist will be able to inform your mother of her options for treatment. As far as chances, only God knows the span of our lives my friend. My mother lived with cancer for 7 years and we enjoyed every day! Just enjoy every day with your mother. Hug her a lot. Tell her you love her and TAKE MANY PICTURES. I think with you being so concerned and her catching her condition early.....she has many happy days ahead. The American Cancer Society chapter in your area is a wonderful resource. I cannot tell you how many times I reached out to them for answers or just for someone to listen. Many volunteers are cancer survivors or have loved ones who have battled cancer. Use your internet, ask those doctors all the questions you want and get support. I will pray for you!

  5. QUESTION:
What should be done to decrease the obesity rates? Do we want an ill nation?
Since it is estimated that 75% of Americans will be obese by 2015....

And since obesity is a costly condition that can reduce quality of life and increases the risk for many serious chronic diseases and premature death.

Evidence: Child Obesity Linked to Early Death, Before Age 55
Obesity responsible for more than - 100,000 cases of cancer per year
Childhood obesity - linked to stiff arteries
    - linked to fewer "pleasure" receptors
    - linked to poor school performance
    - linked to more liver disease than alcohol :O
    - linked to lower testosterone levels
    - early puberty in young girls
Teen Obesity - Linked to Later Multiple Sclerosis
    - increases risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
    - increases the risk of developing osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)
    - increases risk of Alzheimer's disease
    - Diabetes
    - Dyslipidemia
    - Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
    - High blood pressure
    - can increase the risk of dementia up to 80%
    - Gynecological problems
    - increases risk of Fibromygalia
    - linked to sexual Dysfunction
    - linked to lower sperm count
-- increased risk of many cancers

    - breast cancer
    - endometrial cancer
    - colorectal cancer
    - ovarian cancer
    - gallbladder
    - aggressive prostate cancer
    - pancreatic cancer
    - esophageal cancers
    - kidney cancer

    Obesity = brain shrinkage = stupidity ....

Imagine how stupid America will be....

"The researchers found that all of these OBESITY indicators were inversely
associated with total brain volume - that is, the higher any indicator was, the SMALLER THE BRAIN VOLUME -
and that the association between abdominal fat and brain volume was the strongest of all.
Waist-to-hip ratio was also found to be associated with increased temporal horn volume,
    independently of other obesity indicators.
The temporal horn is a part of the ventricular system; its volume is known to increase with age,
and in conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease, depression and schizophrenia.
Enlargement of the temporal horn invariably involves a reduction in the volume of temporal lobe structures such as
the hippocampus, and thus is closely associated with MEMORY IMPAIRMENTS.

    Cancer
"Fat cells produce estrogen, which are now known to be a factor in breast cancer and endometrial cancer.
Fatty tissue also affects the way the body metabolizes insulin,
which can alter how sugar is processed and how it ultimately gets to cells.

Fatty tissue, also known as adipose tissue, produces hormones on its own that could play a role in promoting cancer cells.
It also has been shown to produce chronic, low-grade inflammation in the body.

Lib Nemesis I care about my nation.

And if you want to remain a super power... know that our military is shrinking...

    many can not qualify

    • ANSWER:
Stop blaming the people and hold corporations and our government accountable. Stop allowing them to to use steroids in beef and chicken. Stop regulating the produce, so that it isn't expensive to eat healthy. Change the schools back to the way they were, when you had to take Physical education everyday in all grades. Stop consolidating schools in the name of saving money, so kids have to ride a bus instead of walking to school, and finally build more parks and playgrounds.
