After very successful visits to Indonesia and Vietnam on their Asian tour, English premier league club Arsenal arrive in Nagoya, Japan with serious training in manager Arsene Wenger?s mind. The club?s stints at Jakarta and Hanoi were commercially very successful, but Wenger is looking to have some serious training done in Japan where they are to face his old club Nagoya Grampus on July 22. Aside from training, Wenger is also set to put the club?s efforts behind its transfer targets, hoping to get a marquee signing before their targets get prized away by other clubs.
With fewer commercial commitments, a more intense training regimen awaits the BPL club. Wenger says that the players will be on lockdown during their nine-day stay in Japan. They are also looking at double training sessions every day, as their schedule opens up with fewer appearances that the club?s players have to deal with. But what remains heavy on Arsenal supporters? minds are the efforts to sign their major transfer target, Liverpool want-away forward Luis Suarez. Suarez is still Wenger?s preferred option. Media sources said on Tuesday that the Gunners have upped their initial 30-million-pound bid to 35 million ? but Liverpool will not entertain anything under 40 million pounds. Wenger, speaking to press in Hanoi, gave the impression that Arsenal may finally meet 40 million asking price, but the London club needs to be decisive, and soon, as Carlo Ancelloti and Real Madrid are lurking ominously in the background. There are also rumors that Arsenal are in for Real Madrid?s Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester United?s Wayne Rooney, but Suarez seems the most likely right now.
But in the near future, Arsenal have the match with Nagoya Grampus to take care of. And this match is steeped in history, as before managing Arsenal, Wenger managed Grampus for 18 months. He looks back fondly on that time, saying that it was ?a welcome change in my life, a fantastic experience.? Arsenal will be facing the club on July 22 at the Toyota Stadium, already a match that is sure to fill the venue to the rafters.
