WASHINGTON (AP) ? House Speaker John Boehner says it is "inconceivable" that top White House officials didn't tell President Barack Obama once they learned the Internal Revenue Service had been targeting conservative political groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status.
The White House says top officials, including chief of staff Denis McDonough, learned of an impending inspector general's report on the matter in late April. Obama has said he didn't learn about it until seeing news reports on May 10, the day the story broke.
The inspector general's report said conservative groups were targeted during the 2010 and 2012 elections. But there has been no evidence the White House knew about it until this spring.
Boehner was interviewed on ABC's "Good Morning America."
