Baseball is in full swing, but thanks to a leaked practice tape, college basketball at the state's largest school has also been in the headlines.? Events over the next few weeks at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center at Montclair State fall right in line with what Garden Staters are talking about these days.
Next Thursday, April 25, the most successful high school basketball coach in the nation, Bob Hurley, will discuss his life and career followed by a signing of his book Chasing Perfect: The Will to Win in Basketball and Life.?
The 2010 Basketball Hall Fame inductee has won more than 1,000 games in 40 years at the helm of St. Anthony in Jersey City, and sons Danny (Rhode Island) and Bobby (Buffalo) are Division I head coaches as well. Thursday's signing and discussion is set for 7-8:30 p.m.
On Friday, April 26, from noon-1:30 p.m., the Museum and Leraning Center's Lunch Program continues with an examination of the life and legacy of Hank Greenberg, baseball's first Jewish superstar. Award-winning director Aviva Kempner, Steve Greenberg, Hank?s son, and John Rosengren, author of The Hero of Heroes will be in attendance. Tickets are $20 and include lunch.
New York Daily News columnist Filip Bondy will discuss his humorous new book, Who?s On Worst: The Lousiest Losers, Biggest Cheaters, Saddest Goats and Other Antiheroes in Baseball History on Sunday, April 28.
And on Sunday, May 12, as part of Yogi Berra?s 88th birthday celebration, members of the world champion 1978 New York Yankees will sign autographs during Museum hours, noon-5 p.m. Pricing and scheduling for individual players TBD.
