If The iPhone 5 Really Looks Like This, Apple ... - Business Insider

Over the past few days, the latest round of purported pictures of Apple's forthcoming iPhone 5 have hit the web.

And I can't be the only potential customer who is deflated by what they see.

In fact, I'll go far enough to say that, if the iPhone 5 looks like the pictures that have recently appeared, Apple may be screwed.

Why?

Because the "iPhone 5" looks pretty much like the iPhone 4S. Which looked exactly like the iPhone 4, a phone that is now two years old.

In the meantime, Samsung and other manufacturers have come out with phones that make people's jaws drop, such as the Galaxy S3, which has a (relatively) humongous screen. Although the Apple faithful may start hyperventilating about things like the movement or elimination of a button, most phone buyers couldn't care less. Now that most phones do the same things and work pretty much the same way, the most obvious (and, arguably, important) difference between them is the screen.

In short, the Galaxy feels like a next-generation phone. The iPhone, meanwhile, looks small and old. And the pictures that purport to be of the iPhone 5 show a phone that is pretty much the same small, old phone.

(Yes, they've moved the camera an inch. And it's longer. And it has a metal back. Whoop-de-do.)

(And, yes, apparently the screen is a little taller. Somehow that isn't the same. Check out the size difference in the photo below between the current iPhone and the Galaxy: A bit taller won't cut it.)

To be sure, regardless of what the iPhone 5 ends up looking like, the Apple faithful will scarf up tens of millions of them. They'll line up around the block and sleep outside the stores. They'll rave about the amazing slickness and geniosity and sophistication of Apple, especially as compared to the plebeian "bigness" of Samsung (the Galaxy will no doubt be dismissed as the McMansion of phones).

But, secretly, a lot of those faithful will be disappointed.

And, more importantly, so will tens of millions of other customers and potential customers.

As they should be.

Because it will make it clear that one observation that many Apple skeptics make is dead-on correct--namely that each new generation of the iPhone offers less and less improvement over the prior generation, and, thus, gives customers less reason to upgrade. This, combined with carriers increasingly making moves to discourage customers from upgrading frequently (see AT&T's stealthy changes, which may have helped hurt Apple's iPhone sales in the June quarter), will stretch out the upgrade cycles. And that will mean fewer sales--and less growth--for Apple.

Which screen would you rather spend 18 hours a day using?

Apple's competitors, meanwhile, are on a tear.

In the past year, as Apple moved back its iPhone release schedule and then released a phone that seemed like only a modest refresh of the prior version, Apple's competitors have been gaining ground. Samsung sold 52 million smartphones in Q2, twice as many as Apple, and is now the clear worldwide smartphone leader. Samsung's Galaxy S3, which some reviewers say is better than the iPhone, has sold very well in its first couple of months on the market.

(Our gadget god, Steve Kovach, who is a huge Apple fan, is one of those who concluded that the Galaxy is better than the iPhone. He'd still buy an iPhone over the Galaxy, but only because of the "ecosystem"--the app store, the apps, etc. And although that ecosystem is obviously a big competitive advantage for Apple, it's safe to say if people feel forced to use an inferior phone just because of the "ecosystem," they're going to be disappointed.)

Despite the amazing success of the iPad (which will soon face serious, low-priced competition of its own), the iPhone is still by far and away Apple's most important product. The iPhone generates about half of Apple's revenue, and, likely, a lot more than half of Apple's profits.

If Apple's stock is to power its way to the the $1,000 that most analysts and investors now expect, the iPhone has to keep going gangbusters. And releasing a phone that looks pretty much like the same old iPhone--with a screen that now seems small--probably won't get the job done.

So here's hoping those pictures aren't actually of the iPhone 5.

Telescope Targets Black Holes' Binges And Burps

The NuSTAR telescope, seen in this artist's illustration, will soon be sending back data that researchers will use to study black holes. NASA/JPL-Caltech

The NuSTAR telescope, seen in this artist's illustration, will soon be sending back data that researchers will use to study black holes.

NASA's newest space telescope will start searching the universe for black holes on Wednesday. Scientists hope the NuSTAR X-ray telescope, which launched about six weeks ago and is now flying about 350 miles above the Earth, will help shed some light on the mysteries of these space oddities.

Mission control for the telescope is a small room on the University of California, Berkeley, campus, where about a dozen people with headsets rarely look up from their screens.

Fiona Harrison, a professor of physics and astronomy at the California Institute of Technology, is the principal scientist for the mission. If there's one word that describes her past few weeks, it's "nail-biting," she says.

The beginning of a space telescope's life is particularly stressful. It has to be switched on remotely, including the unfurling of a 33-foot arm that will act like a giant telephoto lens.

[Black holes] are sort of the Las Vegas of the universe. What happens in a black hole stays inside of a black hole. But on the outskirts of them, that is where there's tremendous action.

Now, the $170 million telescope is just about ready to begin its hunt for black holes.

"We're not actually seeing the black hole," Harrison says. "What you're actually seeing is the stuff that's attracted to it."

Harrison says they're called black holes because not even light can escape their gravity. But black holes aren't passive ? they pull in tons of dust and gas. The material swirls around faster and faster, just like a bathtub drain, and gets hotter.

"The material is so hot that it radiates high-energy X-rays," she says, just like the ones doctors use. She says researchers observed them before, but it's like reading a book without your glasses.

"We know there's a story there, we know there's text, but we haven't been able to read the letters," she says.

With NuSTAR, they'll be able to see these X-rays at a higher resolution than ever before.

"It's incredibly exciting because we don't actually know what the text is going to say. And now we're going to be able to read it clearly for the first time," she says.

Harrison hopes the telescope will unlock some of the mysteries around black holes ? like how they grow.

Eliot Quataert, an astronomy professor at UC Berkeley who is not on the mission staff, says black holes grow just like we do ? by eating.

"They eat dramatically, but rarely," he says.

And at the very center of our galaxy, there's a super massive black hole that has eaten quite a bit. But we're still here.

"The misconception that's out there is that black holes are a vacuum cleaner that will inevitably suck in everything around them," Quataert says. For the most part, black holes are on a forced diet ? they've already eaten everything close by.

"But then every once in a while, there will be a lot of gas that gets funneled to the center of a galaxy, and the black hole will grow in a big spurt," he says.

Quataert says seeing this black hole mealtime with the telescope could reveal more about the extreme physics behind it. That could answer questions about how galaxies form. UC Berkeley astronomer Joshua Bloom hopes NuSTAR will find another strange phenomenon: black hole burps.

"You can think about this black hole burping as if you're on a feeding frenzy and you can't fit that many hot dogs in your mouth," Bloom says.

Early last year, Bloom and other astronomers noticed a black hole devouring a star. The black hole spit out a huge jet of material ? a burp. That might sound weird, since nothing can escape a black hole, right?

"These are sort of the Las Vegas of the universe. What happens in a black hole stays inside of a black hole. But on the outskirts of them, that is where there's tremendous action," he says.

Bloom says they're hoping to see more of these rare events and others that are still unknown to astronomers. The NuSTAR space telescope's mission is expected to last at least two years.

Ex-sceptic - Humans cause warming

A formerly sceptical climate scientist says human activity is causing the Earth to warm, as a new study confirms earlier results on rising temperatures.

In a US newspaper opinion piece, Prof Richard Muller says: "Call me a converted sceptic."

Muller leads the Berkeley Earth Project, which is using new methods and some new data to investigate the claims made by other climate researchers.

Their latest study confirms the warming trend seen by other groups.

The project received funds from sources that back organisations lobbying against action on climate change.

Their latest study, released early on Monday (GMT), concludes that the average temperature of the Earth's land has risen by 1.5C (2.7F) over the past 250 years.

?Start Quote

I'm now going a step further: Humans are almost entirely the cause?

End Quote Prof Richard Mueller University of California, Berkeley

The team argues that the good correspondence between the new temperature record and historical data on CO2 emissions suggests human activity is "the most straightforward explanation" for the warming.

The paper reiterates the finding that the land surface temperature has risen 0.9C just in the last 50 years.

In a piece authored for the New York Times, Prof Muller, from the University of California, Berkeley, said: "Three years ago I identified problems in previous climate studies that, in my mind, threw doubt on the very existence of global warming.

"Last year, following an intensive research effort involving a dozen scientists, I concluded that global warming was real and that the prior estimates of the rate of warming were correct. I'm now going a step further: Humans are almost entirely the cause."

When establishing the project, Prof Muller had been concerned by claims that established teams of climate researchers had not been entirely open with their data.

He gathered a team of 10 scientists, mostly physicists, including such luminaries as Saul Perlmutter, winner of this year's Nobel Physics Prize for research showing the Universe's expansion is accelerating.

Funding came from a number of sources, including charitable foundations maintained by the Koch brothers, billionaire US industrialists who have also donated large sums to organisations lobbying against acceptance of man-made global warming.

On a different page

However, one collaborator on the previous tranche of Berkeley Earth project papers, Judith Curry of the Georgia Institute of Technology, declined to be included as an author on the latest one.

Commenting on the paper, Prof Curry said: "Their latest paper on the 250-year record concludes that the best explanation for the observed warming is greenhouse gas emissions. Their analysis is way oversimplistic and not at all convincing in my opinion."

She also told the New York Times: "I was invited to be a co-author on the new paper. I declined. I gave them my review of the paper, which was highly critical. I don't think this new paper adds anything to our understanding of attribution of the warming."

Prof Michael Mann, director of the Earth Science System Center at Penn State University, said that there was "a certain ironic satisfaction" in seeing a study funded by the Koch Brothers "demonstrate what scientists have known with some degree of confidence for nearly two decades: that the globe is indeed warming, and that this warming can only be explained by human-caused increases in greenhouse gas concentrations".

Prof Muller, meanwhile, describes his own change in standpoint as "a total turnaround".

He explained: "These findings are stronger than those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC], the United Nations group that defines the scientific and diplomatic consensus on global warming."

The University of California physics professor added: "I hope that the Berkeley Earth analysis will help settle the scientific debate regarding global warming and its human causes.

"Then comes the difficult part: agreeing across the political and diplomatic spectrum about what can and should be done."

Police: Man charged in 3 slayings says he erred

Trooper Adam Reed says an Amber Alert was canceled Saturday, July 28, 2012, after police in Austintown, Ohio, apprehended 35-year-old Cleeves, who was traveling with his missing daughter, Leia. (AP Photo/Pennsylvania State Police)

(AP) ? Hours after authorities began investigating the shooting deaths of three people in a central Pennsylvania home, the man later charged in the case admitted to state police that he'd "messed up."

The suspect, Kevin Cleeves of Waynesboro, said that in retrospect he never should have gone to the home of his estranged wife's boyfriend Friday night, even if he was concerned about the welfare of his 4-year-old daughter.

Because there, authorities alleged, he quarreled with his wife and her boyfriend in front of the girl and was told to leave but instead opened fire, shooting to death the two adults as well as the man's mother. He then fled with the girl 250 miles to neighboring Ohio, where he was arrested and his daughter was recovered safely.

Cleeves was charged with three counts of criminal homicide in the deaths of 25-year-old Brandi Cleeves, 28-year-old Vincent Santucci and 55-year-old Rosemary Holma and was awaiting an extradition hearing Monday. Court records listed no attorney for him.

Detectives in Ohio declined to say where his daughter, Leia, was on Sunday.

Kevin Cleeves, 35, was headed for Michigan in hopes of getting the girl to his aunt's house, according to an affidavit filed in court in Pennsylvania.

He called his aunt about an hour after the slayings, and he was "drinking and mad," she told police. He admitted to her that he was behind the shootings and she called police.

Cleeves got as far as Austintown, Ohio, just over the Pennsylvania state line, where he was arrested in a hotel parking lot.

Santucci's father, Vincent L. Santucci Sr., told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., that that his son, a chef, had only known Brandi Cleeves for little more than a month but they had a positive energy between them.

"He was a kind person, loving son and brother," he said.

Santucci Sr. said his former wife was a wonderful mother who had put herself through nursing school and found her calling as a nurse.

"We think she died running to help her son," he said.

Easily Locate Mobile Phone By Using Spy Cell Phone Software

Mobile spy is a preferred cell tracking method. When this spybubble first came in the market, then it soon became the ruler and most sold, among some renowned trackers out there. You aren?t supposed to have any special skill to make its use, as it?s pretty simple and straightforward.

Business owners that use Vehicle Tracking Systems to monitor their fleet vehicle activities rely heavily on the GPS Tracking Software. This software is crucial to operation of the system. Although many people would argue that the GPS device itself or wireless communications network is just as important, the GPS Tracking Software takes what would otherwise be raw data and turns it into useful information.

Aside from the functions, most would-be buyers of mobile cellphone accessories patronized by most mobile users are the varied protective covers and spare casings of phone models. Phone covers range from plastic, silicon rubber, and film casings are also differently priced as well. These have become necessary accessories to prolong the mobile phone usage life.

At present, it is impossible to live without mobile phones. These gadgets have become an important part of modern life and thus, they hold important information, not only about our lives but also our current location.

cell phone tracker

If you feel your wife is just not loyal or perhaps the husband is perfectly up to something negative, then you is going for the software as this is truly good for observe the activities of one?s partner. You are able to view the features of the program in the event you look at this Spouse Spy review and you may get to know about the positives and negatives with the software which will let you make up your mind.

One of the far too greatest things about this certain app is usually that it really is very difficult to detect for them they usually do not have any method of understanding that they?ve a tracking software installed on their cell phone.

To locate the position of a mobile telephone the tracking centres just send out a call to the appropriate mobile phone number and this will silently ring twice, before terminating the call. The mobile tracking centre then connects to the phone and using the network of communication satellites orbiting the world are able to pinpoint the phones co-ordinates.

When the software has been installed on this phone on which it?s required, it uses the web capabilities with the phone to silently record texting, multimedia messages, GPS locations as well as call details. The GPS locations are updated every half an hour on the server concerned.

This feature in business mobile phones resolves the issue of finding exact locations. This software provides real-time monitoring of employee activity.

Kyocera DuraXT (Sprint)

The Kyocera DuraXT ($69.99) is Sprint's replacement for the Kyocera DuraMax (3 stars). It has a bigger, better speaker, but is otherwise pretty much the same rugged flip-style?cell phone. It's super tough, uses Sprint's relatively new Direct Connect service, and has a loud speaker and great battery life. A dated UI and few features mean it's only average otherwise, but if you need a push-to-talk feature phone, the DuraXT is your best bet.

Design, Call Quality, and Direct Connect
Like Sprint's other push-to-talk phones, the DuraXT is built like a big old brick. It measures 4 by 2.1 by 1.1 inches (HWD) when closed, and is covered in a grippy, scratch-resistant, rubberized casing. It's also a bit heavy, at 5.3 ounces. It feels tough, and that's for good reason. The DuraXT meets military specification 810G, so it's resistant to dust, extreme temperatures, low pressure, rain, salt fog, shock, and vibration, among other rough conditions. It can even be submerged in three feet of standing water for 30 minutes. It survived plenty of drops of drops to the floor of the PCMag Labs with nary a scratch. On one drop the door that covers the charging port came open, but nothing was damaged. We also placed the phone in a bucket of water, where it was still able to receive calls and snap photos.

There's a 1-inch, monochrome 96-by-64-pixel external display that shows battery life, reception, and time. The internal 320-by-240-pixel LCD looks surprisingly sharp. The default font size is a bit small, but you can make it larger. The phone's keypad is great; it features large, raised keys with plenty of space in between, which should make it possible to dial while wearing gloves.

The DuraXT is a dual-band EV-DO Rev. A (850/1900 MHz) device with no Wi-Fi.?Reception is average and voice quality is good overall. Earpiece volume goes very loud, and voices sound clear, if a bit thin. Calls made with the phone also sound natural, with good noise cancellation. Calls sounded good through a?Jawbone Era?Bluetooth headset ($129, 4.5 stars) and the Nuance-powered voice dialing worked well. Battery life was great at 8 hours and 12 minutes of talk time.

Back when we reviewed the DuraMax, our biggest issue was that the speaker volume wasn't as loud as we would've liked it to be. After all, a push-to-talk phone should be built to hear outside in a noisy environment. While the DuraXT's speaker isn't quite deafening, it is certainly louder than the DuraMax. It's loud enough to hear on a busy city street, so it should be loud enough to hear over most reasonable construction noise.

Sprint's Direct Connect service combines the 3G Internet speeds and nationwide coverage of Sprint's CDMA network with the instantaneous push-to-talk of the old Nextel iDEN network. You need to be in a Sprint coverage area in order to use the DuraXT, but you can still make push-to-talk calls to Nextel iDEN subscribers.?The new network supports Call Alert With Text, which sends an audio alert and text message to another subscriber, along with Group Connect, which can connect 20 subscribers together at once. You can also use the Direct Connect button to mass-message up to 200 Direct Connect subscribers in one shot, or to send recorded messages to email addresses or handsets via text message.?

For this review, I tested Direct Connect using two different DuraXTs. It takes about a second to initiate the connection, after which transmissions are essentially instantaneous. Voice quality is solid, and like the speakerphone, volume is suitably loud.

Apps, Multimedia, and Conclusions
Like the rest of Sprint's push-to-talk lineup, the DuraXT is an otherwise bare bones feature phone. The main menu features the same grid with 12 icons that Sprint has used on many flip phones in the past. It's dated, and requires many button presses to perform even the simplest tasks.

There's an Access NetFront 4.1 browser for reading WAP pages; desktop HTML is out. The DuraXT also supports Sprint Navigation for voice-enabled, turn-by-turn directions, as well as Sprint Family Locator. You also get the standard apps like an alarm, calculator, and calendar.

There's no music or video player, so the nonstandard 2.5mm headphone jack on the right side of the phone isn't a big issue. You get 64MB of free internal memory, along with a 2GB microSD card installed in the slot underneath the battery. You probably won't need anything larger than this, though my 32 and 64GB SanDisk cards worked fine as well.

The 3.2-megapixel camera includes an LED flash, but no auto-focus. It snaps photos in about 0.5 second, but then takes a good 2 seconds to save them. Test photos look decent, if a little dark, with acceptable color and detail. Videos, on the other hand, are terrible. They max out at a miniscule 176-by-144-pixels and play back at a stuttering 10 frames per second indoors and 15 frames per second outside.

If you're looking for a push-to-talk feature phone on Sprint, the Kyocera DuraXT is your best bet. The Kyocera DuraCore ($49.99, 3 stars) costs $20 less, but it isn't as rugged and lacks a camera. The Kyocera DuraPlus?($69.99, 3 stars) is a slab-style phone that's just as rugged as the DuraXT, but it's a 6.7-ounce beast that also lacks a camera. If you're interested in something more advanced, the?Motorola Admiral?($99.99, 4 stars) is a ruggedized push-to-talk Android smartphone with plenty of excellent multimedia features, as well as access to more than 400,000 apps in the Android Market.?

Unemployment application Form with pen, calculator

The unemployed got some bad news last week: the Federal government estimates that it overpaid more than $14 billion in unemployment benefits. This amounts to roughly 11 percent of all unemployment payments, which the recipients will have to pay back.

When it comes to collecting unemployment overpayments, the Federal government only recovers about a quarter of its losses. In fact, there?s even a procedure in place for those who have received overpayments but aren?t able to pay the money back ? they can even have the repayment amount and any subsequent fees waived. The only criterion is that the recipient must prove that they did not set out to purposefully deceive the Federal government.

How unemployment overpayments happen

The most common reason for overpayment is attributed to clerical errors that qualify an applicant for regular payment, when that person would normally not have qualified to collect unemployment. This includes people who quit their jobs, were fired for negligence, aren?t actively looking for work, or have found another job.

The overpayment amounts are significant, especially when viewed through the lens of strained state budgets; Colorado overpaid by $128 million in a single year and Indiana paid out more in incorrect benefits than correct ones.

Withholding tax now vs. paying it later

Overpayments aren?t the only concern for the unemployed. Even though taxes aren?t taken out of your unemployment check, you?re still expected to pay tax on the benefits you collect, which is taxed as regular income.

Additionally, any supplemental unemployment benefits coming from company-funded programs are not taxed as income, but as ?wages.? Meaning: you?re going to get a W-2 for them at the end of the year and the IRS will tax you then.

In some states, you have the option to have taxes withheld at the time the unemployment check is issued. Generally, 10 percent is withheld from the check. This withholding is optional and recipients can elect to collect the entire amount and pay tax on it at the end of the year instead.

Collecting a larger check is tempting, but it?s wise to have the taxes withheld from your unemployment check. Taking a hit now is better than owing the IRS at the end of the year. If you end up with a tax refund at the end of the year instead of owing, that money can go toward any bills and expenses you incurred as a result of being unemployed.

If you still decide to not have tax withheld from your unemployment benefits, make sure to set aside a portion of each check (say 10 percent) in a high-yield, interest-bearing account.

1099-Gs and reporting unemployment on your taxes

When you receive unemployment compensation, you will get issued a 1099-G at the end of the year. This is how the IRS keeps track of any income received from governmental sources. You are required to report this as income and failing to do so might be one of the biggest tax mistakes you can make.

If you fail to report your unemployment benefits as income, it?s unlikely you?re going to end up in Federal prison for tax evasion but the fees and penalties associated with lying on your taxes are significant. And if you get audited ? even if you?re completely clean ? the process will be time consuming and potentially expensive. When it comes to paying taxes, honesty is always the best policy.

Reporting unemployment income on your taxes is easy ? there are lines on your tax forms specifically for any 1099-G income. You can also deduct a number of expenses related to your job search such as transportation, relocation costs, and seminar fees. Even the fancy paper you print your resume on is tax-deductible.

Paying taxes on your unemployment income doesn?t need to be scary ? the detriments far outweigh the benefits and you can feel better about any monetary investment you make in your job search.

Nicholas Pell is a freelance writer based in Hollywood, CA. He underpaid taxes on unemployment one year and had a gnarly bill because of it.

AccessData Releases Cyber Intelligence & Response Technology ...

AccessData is announcing the release of Cyber Intelligence & Response Technology Version 2 (CIRT 2). CIRT is the first platform to integrate network and computer forensics, malware analysis, large-scale data auditing and remediation. The solution is an integration of four of AccessData?s proprietarytechnologies: the AD Enterprise network-enabled computer forensics solution, SilentRunner?network forensics product, the data auditing capabilities of AD eDiscovery and ? new in version 2 ? AccessData?s new Cerberus malware analysis technology.

Traditionally, organizations rely on a number of disparate tools for information assurance and incident response. There are often multiple teams each focusing on one small aspect of a much larger cyber security picture. For example, a forensics team, a network security team, information assurance or compliance auditing team each use different tools and may or may not collaborate on a routine basis. According to Jason Mical, Director of Network Forensics at AccessData, these gaps in technologies and processes make it difficult for an organization to quickly identify when a security breach or data leak has occurred. Since perimeter defense and alerting technologies can only detect what they?ve been told to look for, the ability to catch what tools, such as intrusion detection (IDS) and data loss prevention (DLP) systems, miss is absolutely vital. ?Today, when an organization discovers it has been compromised, it?s often by accident, and usually long after widespread damage has occurred. CIRT is designed to provide 360-degree visibility into what is happening on your network to speed detection, root cause analysis and thorough remediation,? stated Mical.

By allowing users to correlate computer, network and malware data, as well as audit tens of thousands of machines, CIRT gives organizations the ability to identify and address all types of threats, including zero-day events, hacking, data spillage and advanced persistent threats. ?In the age of Stuxnet and Flame, organizations need the visibility and response capabilities CIRT provides,? commented Mical. ?It?s not just another platform that provides a mound of data to sift through. It delivers the threat intelligence you need and it remediates.? Using CIRT, organizations can continuously monitor network traffic, computers and removable media to detect threats and more quickly acquire actionable intelligence in the event of a cyber incident. In addition, with CIRT?s ?check in? feature, CIRT users can monitor the laptops of traveling employees, even when they are not logged on to the organization?s network.

In a June 2010 article in the DoD blog, Armed with Science, head of US Cyber Command, General Alexander, stated ?? we have been leaning forward and building an organization and a mission alignment that is more integrated, synchronized and effective?? In Mical?s view, integrated, synchronized and effective should extend beyond people and processes to include the technology deployed in facilitating incident response. In his words, ?the incident response infrastructure is an organization?s last line of defense, so a few different teams, each juggling a bunch of tools, is not the most effective approach.?

One platform providing a single pane of glass through which users can see what is happening on the network and at the host level has been the vision of AccessData CEO, Tim Leehealey for the last decade. Key features of AccessData?s Cyber Intelligence & Response Technology include the following:

  • Correlate network and host analysis to quickly determine root cause and more effectively chase down data spillage.
  • Identify and triage suspected malware using both static analysis and advanced disassembly analysis to determine behavior and intent without a sandbox or reliance on signature-based tools.
  • Perform proactive and reactive enterprise audits to identify data spillage, such as personally identifiable information, payment card information or classified documents.
  • Play back security incidents in real-time to gain a better understanding of an exploit or data spill.
  • Build threat profiles and monitor to prevent incident recurrence.
  • Continuously monitor the network and information assets, including removable devices, on or off the organization?s network.
  • Perform batch remediation.

?By providing integrated analysis from multiple vantage points, as well as real-time collaboration among personnel and easy-to-read reporting for those at the top of the command chain, AccessData?s CIRT solution is the only product of its kind, engineered to better aid organizations in their efforts to stop the bleeding,? commented Leehealey.

Same Sex Marriage will Benefit Children

The welfare of children has been spoken about considerably during the debate surrounding marriage equality. The fact remains that the Marriage Act does not mention children, not even once. It is not currently a legal requirement of marriage that the married couple produce children, it is not even a legal requirement that the couple be biologically able to produce children ? elderly couples and infertile people are not excluded from marriage.

It is not illegal to have children outside of a married relationship. There are plenty of children born and raised outside of a married relationship. There are adopted children and even children born by assisted methods, such as IVF and surrogacy, presently being raised by unmarried couples, and the law does not prevent this. Neither does the law prevent uniformly undesirable parents to get married and/or produce children ? for example, murderers, paedophiles, and rapists are not excluded from marriage.

Gay and lesbian couples have been raising children for many years and will continue to do so in the future. Sometimes their children are conceived through previous relationships, sometimes they are conceived through IVF or similar methods, and sometimes they are adopted. Over three decades of medical research comparing children raised by same sex couples with children raised by opposite sex couples has not shown any significant difference in outcome, from personality, behaviour and self esteem, to health, academic success, and sexual orientation. [i]

I believe, as many have stated, that ?the best conditions for the creation and upbringing of children is a loving, long-term relationship?. By supporting gay and lesbian marriage, we can further stabilise and cement their relationships, giving them all the rights, benefits and protections of a legal marriage, and this will therefore create the best possible environment for their children.

The legalisation of same sex marriage will reduce social stigma and discrimination presently experienced by same sex couples and their children. This can only benefit the children of such relationships and there is no evidence that this will harm any children of opposite-sex parents.

Legal marriage offers many financial and legal benefits over a de facto relationship. Particularly in the case of a relationship break up, a legal divorce (only possible if first there is a legal marriage) offers a legally structured means of dissolving the relationship. This will assist in managing children of separated same-sex parents, by allowing each parent the same rights to custody and visitation. Consider a situation where two women in a relationship each conceive children by artificial means to different men. If the relationship between the women breaks down, now the law may award each woman ?her? biological child ? and the other mother may not be entitled to any custody or visitation. This would obviously be a very unfortunate situation. Consider now if these women were married ? as automatic step-parents of each other?s biological children, they would be entitled to arrange custody and visitation through a mutually acceptable agreement, just as in any other divorce. This situation clearly benefits the children, and makes the separation smoother.

The simple fact remains that children do best when raised by a loving, long term relationship. Married relationships are more stable and tend to last longer than de facto relationships. Therefore, by allowing same sex couples access to the rights, benefits and protections of marriage, we are granting their children access to the same stability afforded to children of heterosexual relationships. Marriage equality will not harm children ? it will benefit them.

Tips for Kitchen Cabinets

Homeowners put much store in their kitchen cabinets and they should. The cabinets are just about the first thing a guest sees when they enter a person's kitchen. If they're shoddy, with chipped edges or peeling paint, they may make the guest think less of their host. If they lack space or are difficult to open they can create headaches for the homeowner. Beautiful, easy to use cabinets are must-haves.

Cabinets can be stock, which means they can be bought at the big box home furnishing store, brought home and installed right away. They can also be built to order, or they can be custom made. Stock cabinets are the least expensive, built to order cabinets are in the mid range and custom cabinets, built entirely to the homeowner's specifications, are the most expensive. Here are some tips to make kitchen cabinets esthetically pleasing and efficient.

* The bottoms of wall cabinets should be at the shoulder height of the person who works the most in the kitchen and the top shelves should be easy to access.

* The homeowner might combine closed and open shelves to keep the look of the kitchen cabinets interesting. However, unless the homeowner has an abundance of spectacular glass and dishware they'd like to show off, they should use open shelves sparingly.

* Moldings and other trim can also be added to cabinets to provide interest.

* Cookware that's heavy or used a great deal should be stored in cabinets between the height of the cook's hip and shoulder so they'll be easy to reach.

* The homeowner should choose cabinets with drawers instead of doors, as whatever the cook needs will be easier to find in drawers. The drawers should have full extension runners and dividers so like items can be stored together. The handles should be C-shaped, as they're easier to use.

* If doors need to be used on floor cabinets they should be small.

* Cabinets should be painted with light colored paint with a matte finish, which is easier on the eyes.

* A homeowner who has a bad back should buy roll out shelving since they won't have to lift heavy objects as much.

* The homeowner or builder should take any door clearance into account before installing corner cabinets.

* Lights can be put inside cabinets, but the homeowner should make sure the building codes allow for this. Building codes can be surprisingly finicky.

* Frameless cabinets provide more storage space than framed cabinets and are very sturdy when they're installed. But before they're installed they're less sturdy than framed cabinets and need to be carefully measured so they can be level and plumb.

* If the doors and drawers don't come with rubber bumpers in the corners they should be added. They cut down on noise and keep the sides of the cabinet from being dinged.

* If a homeowner wants a certain type of wood, but it's much too expensive, they can cheat a bit by having the dealer stain a cheaper wood to look like a more expensive wood. Wood kitchen cabinets should always be finished before they're installed, as wood warps and the kitchen is invariably a place of high humidity. Cabinets can also be made out of particleboard, MDF or plywood and surfaced with formica, melamine, vinyl films and wood veneer.

Some Useful Home Vegetable Gardening Tips : myGardening411.com

Some Useful Home Vegetable Gardening Tips

Article by Clifford S. Magno

The popularity of home vegetable gardening has increased in the last few years and one in every three families does some kind of home gardening. There are some basic home vegetable gardening tips that you can follow to become a successful gardener.

Home Vegetable Gardening Tips

There is not much choice available for urban gardeners in terms of garden sites, but it still remains the most important aspect for successful gardening. Areas that are full of sunlight and that have deep, fertile and well-drained soil is ideal for any kind of gardening. Make sure that the plot is located near a water outlet and does not have other shrubs and trees.

Another important home vegetable gardening tip is to select the appropriate crop. Depending upon the size of the garden, you can choose the vegetables ideally suited for them. Crops like cantaloupes, watermelons, cucumbers and water squash need large spaces to grow. Beets, beans, onions, carrots, spinach and tomatoes are small garden vegetables. Plantations can also be chosen as per family needs but make it a point not to over crowd the plot.

A good home vegetable gardening tip is to plan the garden just like you plan your house. A good planning reduces the effort you will have to put in later and will increase your return on labor. You need to separate the long-term and short-term crops so that long-term crops do not interfere with harvesting and care of short-term crops. Crop rotation is another home vegetable gardening tip as it helps prevent insect build-ups and diseases.

An important home vegetable gardening tip is to have a soil that is fertile, deep and well-drained. Organic matter or sand can be added to the soil if it is heavy clay. Granular soil is ideal for planting and if you do thorough preparation of soil, it will reduce your work of planting and caring for the crop.

Proper fertilization is another very important home vegetable gardening tip. The amount of soil required will largely depend upon crops and soil types. You should plant your garden early in the fall and spring so that vegetables will get ideal conditions to grow and mature. Spring is the time of nice weather and an ideal time for you to start your home vegetable garden.

Some good spring vegetable gardening tips are to involve your kids in the entire process, prepare the soil for spring vegetables, choose the appropriate vegetables, and make your child a part of each and every process. Gardening needs patience, and spring gardening can offer a good lesson of patience to your kids.

Another useful home vegetable gardening tip is to provide the plants with enough water at the roots so that the water is able to penetrate the soil up to the depth of six inches. To get rid of unwanted plants in your vegetable garden, use along-handled hoe. Avoid using chemical weed control, as it is not necessary in small areas. Mulching is a good home vegetable gardening tip that will increase the yield from your home vegetable garden. Control the pests using chemicals if necessary.

Pericardial Mesothelioma ? Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment ...

Pericardial mesothelioma than half of all crops and pericardial, extremely rare. This cancer approximately 6% of all mesothelioma cases, these tumors usually diffuse and tend to blur the entire heart.

Pericardial mesothelioma affects the pericardium membrane consists of mesothelial cells comprehensive and protects your heart. This membrane has two layers: A layer called pericardium external vertex} B} the inner layer called the movie more visceral pericardium {epicardium} reason as in the case of pleural mesothelioma, there is a clear link between exposure to asbestos fibers, this cancer, but the number of patients with pericardial mesothelioma has a history of asbestos exposure.

Some schools of thought believe that inhaled asbestos fibers that take blood from the lungs through the lungs to the heart, although this theory is not supported by evidence.

When asbestos fibers get lodged in the pericardium, the body is unable to asbestos fibers toxins, they remain stuck in the pericardium. These fibers over time cause pericardial cells undergo changes that result into cancerous transformation.

Cancer cells divide uncontrollably, they ultimately result in pericardial thickening of membranes eventually causes the development of tumors. These changes cause the accumulation of fluids between the two layers which together with a thickening of the heart causing compression of these layers.

The symptoms most of the symptoms are caused by accumulation of fluid, pericardial layer thickening. Common symptoms are: a) or irregular pulse, and sweating heart (time) B) chest pain) a whispering (normal heart sounds) d) cough E) H F) fatigue and Dyspnoea (shortness of breath)) or night sweats I) Brown Orthopnoea (breathlessness on lying down) these symptoms are not specific for cancer, clinical diagnosis is difficult.

Diagnosing clinical diagnosis after receiving a series of tests to be done to detect cancer and identifying the cancer cells.

Magnetic resonance imaging-MRI, and the degree of development of this useful evaluation of cancer.

-This involves removing the pericardium tissue biopsy or fluid for laboratory testing to confirm the presence of mesothelioma cells.

-Chest x-ray helps identify and characterization, there is no typical shape of the heart x-ray film when there is a cancer of the pericardium.

Chest CT scan-this also helps identify and characterization.

Treatment of mesothelioma symptoms Pericardial mesothelioma patients are generally not except in rare cases, surgery, when cancer diagnosed very early and can do little to remove localized tumors analysis.

This type of analysis is very dangerous because of the proximity of the heart.

Palliative care is usually the only option for treating pericardial mesothelioma, this type of treatment is designed to reduce the severity of the symptoms caused by accumulation of fluid in the pericardium and improving the quality of life of the patient.

Fine needle aspiration may be performed to drain fluid that accumulated around the heart. Radiation therapy can also be used to shrink the tumor and characterize relieve symptoms caused by compression of the heart by the accumulation of fluids. However, the proximity of the heart and lungs makes this a very dangerous procedure.

Prognosis for this type of mesothelioma prognosis is poor, about 50-60% of all cases die within 6 months of diagnosis. Occasionally a few patients survive for a long period of time after treatment with surgical resection parts and projections.

Nazi-Tattooed Evgeny Nikitin Leaves Bayreuth Opera Festival, Samuel Youn Steps In

BERLIN ? The Bayreuth opera festival says bass-baritone Samuel Youn has stepped in to take the lead role in "The Flying Dutchman," the annual event's opening production, after Evgeny Nikitin withdrew when it emerged he once had Nazi-related symbols tattooed on his body.

The festival on Sunday listed Youn, who studied in Seoul, Milan and Cologne and has previously performed at Bayreuth, as the lead performer in the production, which opens Wednesday. Youn already had been foreseen as a backup in case Nikitin fell ill.

Nikitin, who is from Russia, withdrew from the festival dedicated to composer Richard Wagner's work on Saturday. He said getting the tattoos years ago was a serious mistake and that he was "not aware of the extent of the confusion and hurt that these symbols would cause."
