Book Review: The Entrepreneur Equation | Matt About Business

I have to start out by saying that if you are considering becoming an entrepreneur, this is one of the most useful books that you will ever read.

It?s also the scariest.

That?s because Carol holds nothing back. She portrays the work and sacrifice, as well as the rewards, in a clear and forthright manner that may send you scrambling back to your cubicle.

And that?s the point. Being an entrepreneur is not glamorous; it?s hard work. It?s not for everyone; smarts do not always trump the ability to schmooze and create relationships. Doing what you love can quickly lead to hating that very thing.

The best part of this book are all the numerous assessments and exercises appearing throughout. Thanks to those tools, and Carol?s no-nonsense approach, the question of whether or not the entrepreneur?s path is right for you will be answered by the time you reach the end.

There?s never been a better time to start a business?or so the conventional wisdom would have you believe. But with up to 90 percent of businesses failing within the first five years, it?s time to take off the rose-colored glasses and think twice before you invest your precious time, money and energy.

The Entrepreneur Equation helps you do the math before you set down the entrepreneurial path so that you can answer more than just ?Could I be an entrepreneur?? but rather ?Should I be an entrepreneur?? By understanding what it takes to build a valuable business as well as how to assess the risks and rewards of business ownership based on your personal circumstances, you can learn how to stack the odds of success in your favor and ultimately decide if business ownership is the best possible path for you, now or ever.

Through illustrative examples and personalized exercises, tell-it-like-it-is Carol Roth helps you create and evaluate your own personal Entrepreneur Equation as you:

• Learn what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in today?s competitive environment
• Save money, time and effort by avoiding business ownership when the time isn?t right for you
• Identify and evaluate the risks and rewards of a new business based on your goals and circumstances
• Evaluate whether your dreams are best served by a hobby, job or business
• Gain the tools that you need to maximize your business success

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that architect Michelle Kaufmann, termed ?the Henry Ford of green homes? by the Sierra Club, says in order to attract people to energy efficient modular homes, we have to make it less expensive to live in than what people are paying now. ?She says we need to think of not just the mortgage, but demonstrate that the monthly energy bill is lower. ?If you can show people monthly savings, that is powerful. ?She says conventional home building has been the same for years and it is wasteful. ?Kaufmann, who has displays in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, says building green modular homes should not take any longer than building non-green.

Not So Fast! McDreamy MIGHT Not Be Leaving Grey's After All

Here's the sitch:

Yesterday, we reported that Patrick Demspey made the long awaited announcement that this coming season of Grey's Anatomy would be his last. It wasn't really a shock to anyone and we were just pleased to know that after eight years, he'll be going out on good terms rather than some of his other cast members.

But today, his rep has come forward to clarify his client's comments, which to refresh your memory, were that this season "will be my last." His rep released this statement, saying:

?He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds.?

Um, whaaaaat? Okay, this is TV talk for one of two things.

One, McDreamy was supposed to keep his McMouth shut until they got closer to the new season premiere. Then, the network could make the announcement on not just his fate, but the fate of the rest of the original cast, which is more ideal for them.

Two, Patrick is stirring the pot right before his contract negotiations. Nothing gives you more leverage with studio heads than a reminder that you're their star. People's reaction to losing their beloved McDreamy could be motivation enough to throw more money at his feet to stick around.

Personally, we still think next season should be his - and everyone else's - last. With a clear ending, Shonda Rhimes could end this thing the way she started: on top!

What do U think?

Inside Ashley Williams's Wedding at Brad Paisley's Farm

Ashley Williams and Neal Dobson

Robin Platzer/LFI

No fancy heels, no bridesmaids, no wedding cake ? no problem.

Something Borrowed actress Ashley Williams married her longtime boyfriend, producer Neal Dobson, Sunday evening in a no-frills, outdoor ceremony in Nashville.

"We wanted an intimate, farm-inspired wedding," Williams, 32, tells PEOPLE of her nuptials, which were held at the home of her sister Kimberly Williams-Paisley and brother-in-law Brad Paisley. "We basically planned an upscale keg party!"

Keeping things low-key, the couple, who met eight years ago in acting class, exchanged vows they wrote themselves and wedding bands they bought from Overstock.com.

Flip-Flop Party Favors

At the reception, which was held in the sand pit where Paisley trains his horses, guests were treated to a pair of party favors ? flip-flops, "so they can relax and have fun," Williams says.

About 50 guests, including Paisley and his wife, danced the night away to a four-member local country band, sipping an assortment of Anheuser-Busch beer, wine and their signature wedding drink, "The Smashed," a whiskey-based swill coined in reference to Williams's nickname, "Smash."

For dinner, the menu stayed true to Williams's "small and simple" vision. Guests passed around pulled pork, biscuits and macaroni 'n' cheese, capping off the family-style meal with banana pudding instead of wedding cake.

It's been about a year and a half since the couple became engaged on Thanksgiving in 2009. Now, Williams says she has married her "best friend."

"He grounds me," says the bride, who wore a classic ivory Augusta Jones gown and blue sandals. "He allows me to laugh at myself and calms me down. He puts things in perspective."
